This is an exciting post that will support the development of a portfolio of palliative and supportive care research. The post-holder will contribute to the overall research record of the School and University, carrying out research leading to publications in high quality academic journals, pursuing excellence in research and inspiring others to do the same.
The post is funded by the Wales Cancer Research Centre and is based within the Marie Curie Palliative Care Research Centre, Division of Population Medicine at Cardiff University.
The post holder will conduct research within the ‘Optimised Patient Experience’ work stream of the Wales Cancer Research Centre. This work stream is focused on refining the concept of precision medicine by including consideration of patient – as well as tumour – characteristics which reflect ability to tolerate treatment (treatment resilience) alongside patient preferences for, and experience of, care.
The post will concentrate on identifying those patient physiological classifiers (e.g. sarcopenia, circulating biomolecules, task performance) which best define risk of anti-cancer treatment non-completion. The post holder will work alongside colleagues who will be exploring patient perceptions of treatment and treatment choice. A significant degree of cross-over and collaborative working is anticipated. The post holder will also be researching within the wider context of the Wales Cancer Research Centre’s ‘Treatment and Care’ domain with ample opportunity to collaborate across clinical and academic domains.
This post is full time (35 hours a week), available immediately and fixed term until 31 March 2023.
